In the same time, the Hollywood attempts to make FX more and more incredible is silly if the movie is deliverd on a medium, hidding it from the customer. Especially, the high quality connections (I just compared the SCART to HDMI) and better processors (look on paused picture) makes BD attractive for SciFiction / Action genre.

Having the BR disc kill off the DVD is what movie companies would like to see. But in germany it is not happening.

While the DVD provided remarkable benefits compared to the VHS cassette like: a lot better quality, not having to rewind a tape, menus, multi-language, subtitles, extras and no degrading quality over time because of extensive usage. The BR disc is struggling, because there is no such killer feature for the BR disc. At least, that is what consumers feel.

Yes, the image and sound quality are better. That's basically it. Most customers do not care about Internet capability or other stuff. Besides BR discs are overpriced in Germany - compared to the UK and USA where the market penetration of BR consequently is a lot higher than in Germany. On the other hand, Internet movie stores / libraries are growing rapidly so there is a good chance the BR disc will never even make it as far as the DVD has gotten.

... In the meantime the DVD producers p!55 off their loyal customers by "presenting" annoying trailers or "don't copy this disc adds" (I just bought you it, you M0r0n.) before the main feature. The customer has to watch this crap over and over again because skipping it is not allowed for the disc he just bought...
